I have gone through a convoluted Lion upgrade because there were all
sorts of errors on the drive that showed up on Disk Utility which were
then fixed by Drive Warrior. It is 640Gb drove on an iMac and these
runs were taking about 24hrs. Only using 220Gb of space on the drive
but had 5 million files.

I tried to run Carbon Copy to another backup disk but this would have
taken about a week. So I killed it. It was running through loads of
files in Application support .data files it looked like.

Once Lion was up and running, Spotlight was reindexing and it told me
that this was going to take 6 weeks!

Just installed Disk Daisy (took about 12 hrs to analyse disk) and sure
enough there is about 8Gb of Sync related files.

I have had SpanningSync running almost constantly for about three
years? Is there some sort of housekeeping. I suspect that there are
millions of small files.

Am I thinking along the right lines?

Owain.
