Towards the end of the blog post you will see how to get your contacts
back "On My Mac" and out of iCloud.  Once the contacts are back to
being stored locally, you should be able to use MobileMe again to sync
with your iDevices.  Apple is doing away with MobileMe completely next
year, so you'll need to sync the devices directly with Google at that
point.
