I have built both 2.6.22.4 and 2.6.23-rc3 kernels. Whereas 2.6.22.4 has a lot more unresolved symbols 2.6.23-rc3 has only the following one:
ERROR: "__cmpdi2" [drivers/md/dm-snapshot.ko] undefined! make[1]: *** [__modpost] Error 1 make: *** [modules] Error 2
