Hello All,
My new toy is a Sparc station 2 on which, you might guess, I want to run Linux.
I have a Linux-box, SlackWare kernel 2.0.36, with NFS configured properly
(I have NFS-access to it from yet another Linux-box).
On this first Linux-box I have done the things described in the FAQ's on
http://www.geog.ubc.ca/s_linux.html
So this is basically what I have done:
- donwloaded vmlinux-980805 from vger.rutgers.edu
- created /tftpboot and put the vmlinux there as 902C38D9.SUN4C
(IP of Sun going to be 144.44.56.217)
- modified /etc/exports to export /tftpboot
- setup ARP/RARP entries
# arp -a
Address HW type HW address Flags Mask
144.44.56.217 10Mbps Ethernet 08:00:20:0F:B2:E2 *
# rarp -a
IP address HW type HW address
144.44.56.217 10Mbps Ethernet 08:00:20:0f:b2:e2
- modified inetd.conf
tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/in.tftpd in.tftpd /tftpboot
- kill -HUP <pid inetd>
- power-on Sunsparc
- at "OK" prompt typed 'boot net'
I then see a led flashing a few times (5 or so) on my hub and then nothing.
After ten minutes or so I get the message "receive failed: The file just
loaded does not appear to be executable"
Then I pulled the vmlinux-980805 through "elftoaout" as stated on the web-site.
Same result :-(((
I have not yet put my laptop (running Solaris 2.5.1 x86) in the network to see
the snoop-packages. Reason: I wouldn't know what to look for...
So, some questions:
1) What can be wrong?
2) how do I create a NFS-root on my Linux box?
I have seen something written about 'easy.nfs.root-2', provided by some
Miguel on ftp.nuclecu.unam.mx, but I can't find it.
3) I also tried the boot- and ramdisk-images from ftp.redhat.com, but
when I try to boot these floppies on the Sun, it says something like
"Unable to load Sun-label". I tried to format these floppies on my laptop
before 'dd'-ing the images to it on my Linux-box, same result.
Please Help!!!
