Hi!
If you are unsure which patches to apply to get a 2.2.1 kernel on sparc* or
if you just don't want to compile it, look at
ftp://ultra.linux.cz/OS/Linux/Sparc/local/kernel/kernel*2.2.1-1.sparc*.rpm
There are both .sparc.rpm and .sparc64.rpm packages plus the source package.
I'll move this into UltraPenguin devel area once I test it properly on a
couple of machines (if you'll have any problems with it, let me know).
On sparc64, this kernel features new pci kernel command line options for
ordering:
pci=noreverse
means PCI devices will be scanned in the hw PCI order (this is the default
currently, and is what has the kernel beeing till now)
and
pci=onboardfirst
means that onboard PCI devices (like onboard hme) will be probed before
other devices. If there are multiple PCI boards (e.g. in E??00 servers),
then the probe will first scan all onboard devices in the PCI probe order
and then all other PCI devices, again in PCI probe order in that category.
I have added this because some people complained that if they plug in e.g.
PCI quad hme card (which should be supported by this release, btw), then the
onboard device changes from eth0 to ethN. As onboard devices cannot be
pluged out, it makes sense to me to probe them first. (I welcome feedback on
this and it may disappear again if it proves useless).
Cheers,
Jakub
