I had the same problem with my SS5. It seems to be a problem with the
SCSI bus - i got round it by doing a network installation. Try
checking your termination. I also had the same problems with my Mac
and LinuxPPC (which is based on RedHat I belive). I therefore
concluded it was something to with the latest RedHat kernel and scsi
buses. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else with these
problems, or, who might be able to shed light on the subject.
However, someone (David Miller?) wrote on this list a while back that
it is down to certain makes/model of CDROMS with the Sparc - you'll
find that message in the archives.
BTW. I ran RH 6.2 on my SS5 with 2 528MB HDs and 128RAM without too
many problems at first. After a re-installation though, I just get
SCSI errors saying the bus has been reset - I don't know if these
problems are related. It was the same with Mandrake 7.1 (Hydrogen.) I
don't have the time or expertise to debug it. I have since installed
Debian and haven't had these problems.
Cheers,
Paul.
