Only if you need it to send mail for some reason. You probably
don't need or want to have it running as a daemon, but having the binary
on the disk might be handy. Have your firewall send you email
occasionally, or something.

Well, you didn't say if it'd be an ip masquerading firewall or
not.
Some people like to use smtpd on their firewalls for "safe
sendmail" because it acts like a transparent filtering proxy (if you set
it up to act like one), but if you're the only person using it, it's not
really a big deal.
