Hi Johannes,

We build everything from source on OS X but found we also had to build all the 
prerequisites rather than downloading binaries as often they are not compiled 
with all the required options. I would recommend trying this using the build 
instructions on Pete's website.

If you want to make improvements to the cmake files feel free to do so and 
submit a pull request.
