Hi, SPDX features Nokia-Qt-exception-1.1: https://spdx.org/licenses/Nokia-Qt-exception-1.1.html
The exception is still in use today, but Qt is not owned by Nokia anymore, and therefore the license text got changed to reflect this: http://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.git/tree/LGPL_EXCEPTION.txt The semantics of the exception is still exactly the same though, so I guess labeling even latest Qt with e.g. "LGPL-2.1-only WITH Nokia-Qt-exception-1.1" is still technically correct. But it feels still a bit weird, because it's not Nokia anymore ;) The other (smaller) issue with the exception is that there's nowadays also another exception for Qt, and that is for the GPL3: "The Qt Company GPL Exception 1.0" (I'll send a separate request about this later on). That we have _two_ exceptions has already lead to confusion e.g. in openSUSE packaging. This is solved easiest by mentioning the license the exception matches to in the name. To make a concrete proposal: Can you introduce a new Qt-exception id without Nokia, but with LGPL as part of the name? Long name: Qt LGPL Exception version 1.1 Short-name: Qt-exception-LGPL-1.1 ''' As an additional permission to the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1, the object code form of a "work that uses the Library" may incorporate material from a header file that is part of the Library. You may distribute such object code under terms of your choice, provided that: (i) the header files of the Library have not been modified; and (ii) the incorporated material is limited to numerical parameters, data structure layouts, accessors, macros, inline functions and templates; and (iii) you comply with the terms of Section 6 of the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1. Moreover, you may apply this exception to a modified version of the Library, provided that such modification does not involve copying material from the Library into the modified Library's header files unless such material is limited to (i) numerical parameters; (ii) data structure layouts; (iii) accessors; and (iv) small macros, templates and inline functions of five lines or less in length. Furthermore, you are not required to apply this additional permission to a modified version of the Library. ''' As you might have noticed I also dropped the first line of the file so that further owner / company name changes won't change the text. Nokia-Qt-exception-1.1 could then be deprecated. Regards Kai PS: Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I just subscribed and couldn't find a public mail archive for this list. _______________________________________________ Spdx-legal mailing list Spdx-legal@lists.spdx.org https://lists.spdx.org/mailman/listinfo/spdx-legal
