I'm glad to hear you are interested in working on the SPDX parsers.

Excellent question on which spec version to support.

There is a face to face meeting next week where we will be discussing the
SPDX 2.0 spec.  After the meeting we should have a better idea on whether
2.0 will be sufficiently specified to be used by the GSoC projects.  We can
always use the 1.2 version of the spec if 2.0 is not ready.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.
