Hello SPDX community! Within our team, we are looking for a proper way to add patent information to an SPDX document.
Going through the different versions of the specifications, we found that for versions below 2.3 is stated that such use case is not covered for specification. Clause 5: Composition of an SPDX document - specification v2.3.0<https://spdx.github.io/spdx-spec/v2.3/composition-of-an-SPDX-document/#53-what-this-specification-does-not-cover> [cid:[email protected]] For version 3.0, we did not find any related statement. However, we think that the specification itself has other attributes that could be useful for this purpose. Some ideas are: * Use a custom License identifier and add related patent text. * Use License comments on the declared license. * Add a statement informing of the patent as an annotation. * Use ExternalRef. Is there any reason for not adding patent information to an SPDX document? If there is no impediment to do so, is there any actual recommendation based on your experience for adding patent info?
