Dear SPDX Community, We are approaching the end of the current term for several members of the SPDX Steering Committee. We are reaching out to let you know about the upcoming nomination and selection process for new Steering Committee members.
The governance page on the SPDX website <https://spdx.dev/about/governance/> lists the current Steering Committee and term lengths. Under SPDX’s governance process, each Team may have between 1-3 Team Leads. 1-2 Team Lead positions may currently be filled through this process for each of (A) the Tech Team, (B) the Outreach Team, and (C) the Legal Team. Additionally, 1-2 Member Representative positions on the Steering Committee may also currently be filled, each for a one-year term. The Steering Committee will then select a new Chair from among the new Steering Committee members for a one-year term. In order to ensure that the community has enough time to submit nominations, the Steering Committee will fill the roles effective *June 1, 2026.* The Steering Committee would also like to take a moment to thank those whose terms are ending (although we invite all of them to continue to participate and to renominate themselves!) Many thanks to Phil Odence who has served as an Outreach Team Lead this year, and to Team Leads Kate Stewart + Alexios Zavras (Tech Team), Jilayne Lovejoy (Legal Team), and Mahshid Izady-Vahedy (Member Rep). Below you will find more information regarding the dates for the nomination and selection process, and next steps / action items if you are interested in nominating someone for a position. Please review the main SPDX Project Governance Policy <https://github.com/spdx/governance/blob/main/5._Governance.md> if you have specific questions.
