A radical idea for the first one that will probably save you time in the long
run: don't use the webtop for what you're trying to do.
It is easy to build a generalized framework for accessing, creating, editing and
deleting objects of various Types. (A description of the basics are in chapter
10 of the Forta book. Since writing that, I had some time to generalize the
approach further so it's easy to build admin interfaces for new COTs. I'll try
to get data on this up on our site at some point, but the basics are in the
chapter.)
Spectra 2's webtop is going to be much more flexible, which will allow you to
customize things quite a bit more.
As for the second one, I've only worked with SiteMinder on NT but am basically
advising people to work around security until SiteMinder gets fixed (which IS in
progress -- and there are acceptable workarounds depending on the exact security
needs). One thing I have heard recently is that the Service Pack for 4.5.1 is
very important for Solaris installations. If you're not yet running that you
might want to check into it.

Subject: objectfinder Sloowww & Site Minder headaches...
Hi! Webtop is really slow when we are using objectfinder.cfm (System Design
-> Site Object Designer -> Object Finder in webtop ). I think that this is
related to the number of object we are trying to display on the page (around
900). Is there a solution around that (I think that 900 object is not that
much..). Since we are just displaying the lable, UUID, date and so on it
should not be so slow (unless the request.cfa is populated with the complete
content of each object).
Any ideas and/or solutions ?
We also still have a big problem with the access to webtop. We need to
restart one of our Solaris box about 2 or 3 times a day since it completely
hang up. And we were able to see that the server usually hang up when
somebody in dev try to access webtop... After restarting the server we can
access the server without any problems... I am quite sure that this is
related to Site Minder (under Solaris).
Any ideas and/or solutions ?
Thanks,
Christian
