Jim,
I have definitely seen the kinds of problems with duplicate() you're talking
about under certain circumstances although at the time I reported it to
Allaire they hadn't yet seen the problem and may not have been able to
replicate it. (We ended up having to recode cfa_deepcopy to NOT use
duplicate() because of the exact situation you are encountering.)
I believe I've tried this hot fix but it didn't handle our problem -- I'd be
very interested if it handles yours.
I put together some code at one point that I thought replicated the problem,
but if the hot fix does NOT handle your problem and you have code that
consistently replicates it, please do send it to Allaire so they can see the
bug too. (You could probably send it to Libby and she'll forward it to
someone.)
