Subject: Searching embedded objects

Folks
I am trying to bed down several object definitions for a major
project. I am wanting to implement searching against these objects,
but against an embedded object type which stores several attributes
which are common against multiple object types in the application
(thus the embedded type). How do I search for objects based on data
in the embedded objects.
The properties I want to search against are "Searchable".
