Hi Guido,
Sorry, pretty busy at moment. You're not using client variables? If you
are don't use the registy to store them. Other things to check to account
for cpu peaks - logs (especially mail), scheduled tasks, log sizes (should
clear them daily). If you get really stuck raise an incident with
Macromedia support (number below) and we can investigate further.
Cheers,

Hi Robin,
increasing cache size seems to minimize STARTUP, PARSING, & SHUTDOWN, but
doesn't eliminate our cpu peaks. yesterday I tried to eliminate all
cf/spectra code from application.cfm. Then I couldn't observe peaks. There
were peaks when turning on sessionmanagement. Perhaps this is a problem
with the registry surrogate under unix?
Is it possible, that big log or dump files can cause those problems?
thank you,
guido franz

Hi Guido,
In CF Administrator what is your template cache size - the default of
1024Kb
is far to small, try at least 10240Kb. You're probably getting cache pops
(check performance monitor or cfstat) which require recompilation of cfm
files that are dropped because the cache is too small. On a production
system select "trusted cache" to further reduce startup time.

Subject: long execution time
Hello!
Our system: spectra 1.0, cf 4.5, solaris, oracle
We met some performance problems. Most of the time responses are quick, but
sometimes it will take a long time, up to 15 seconds for one page. Then I
activated debugging, which looks like this:
***********
Execution Time
7444 milliseconds
........
7053 ms STARTUP, PARSING, & SHUTDOWN
************
In the majority of cases STARTUP, PARSING, & SHUTDOWN will last 40ms or so,
but sometimes much longer. cpu load will then go up to 50-60 %. It seems
that it is not an issue of specific pages. It's more like random. Anyone
knows what's going on?
