Hi
Has anybody else noticed with cfa_tabarea, if you have one cfa_tabpage that
is too long then it some of it appears even when not selected? I have played
around with the minimumwidth/height settings but they didn't help.
Eventually I had to set the mode to Server - that seemed to work. Otherwise
cfa_TabAreas are pretty cool.
Anyway...
<rant>
not wanting to sound negative.
But does anybody else feel that they are struggling to work with a product
that is adding no monetary value to their earing potential?
Maybe this time last year being a good Spectra developer could equate to
high value contracts/work. Back when Spectra had a future.
But all these good skills mean nothing if the work isn't there - i.e.
Companies won't buy a product that is essentially being dumped and replaced
by vapourware.
Community source is all well and good but if I was spending $$$ on a product
and found that the only technical support was lazy ass developers (like
myself) and Spectra hobbyists then maybe my money might go somewhere else...
Or to put it another way, compare your potential earning power if you had
the same level of skill with J2EE/JSP/JRun. Currently on www.jobserve.co.uk
a search for "Spectra" & "London" returns a whopping 1 result. The same
search using "JSP" returns 431 results. You do the math.
And ColdFusion skills, as much as I appreciate them, are not nearly as
transferrable as Java, C++, PHP or even (shudder) ASP.
Am I the only one who can see that the emperor is not wearing any clothes?
Or maybe I am the only one who believes the sky is falling on our heads?
Why doesn't Macromedia/Allaire stand by it's product and say "Hey, this is a
great system for building Content Management Systems - not perfect but
plenty of bang for your buck. We will continue to FULLY support Spectra in
it's current form, with FULLY endorsed enhancements provided by the
Community Source Model (can I smell cash for good developments here...?)
UNTIL enough (say 70%) of our customers have upgraded to CF
6.0/greylock/holygrailware."
Then I might be happier trying to convince my controlhandler event to
pretend that I'm actually passing it a structure even though the
#Contextname# can't cope with structures - which is OK I guess seeing as
though they are really form variables, although it is performed
serverside...but I digress.
Apologies if this is the wrong forum for these issues or if I appear to be
trolling, I am just interested in what you guys and girls think.

Cheers
Darren
