Folks, in a current project (soon to wind up), the client has asked
for dynamic navigation menus based on the structure of content in our
CODB. Which is fine.
We have used queries and cfa_tree to render these trees, but the code
produced is frighteningly heavy - it's not unusual to see a page
render out to OVER 250KB.
Here in Australia, where cheap, easy access to fast cable is a thing
of our dreams (I was informed yesterday by the ONLY local provider
that ADSL was not available on my phone despite being available via
the exchange I connect to), with uptake somewhere in the 1.5-2% of
the market range. Everybody else as an end-user is on standard
dialup or hooked in at work (less of an issue there, usually -
although there are lots of businesses which still rely on dialup).
Consequently, a 250KB or greater page is not something I'd want to be
delivering too often.
Does anybody know of a faster and skinnier alternative to cfa_tree?
Steve
