Subject: SOLVED! (Was Re: Spectra + Verity K2)

Your comments were definitely key in getting us to a point where we were
able to crack this one. I'm happy to say that with a few mods to your
approach, we now have our webtop machine generating and maintaining
collections, and our clustered front-end webservers searching the
collections over the network in K2 mode. I think!! ;-) Here's what we did:

Setup on the webtop server:
==========================

o setup indexing using the webtop as normal. This creates collections in
  /opt/allaire/spectra/collections (on Slowlaris at least).

o Manually configure k2server.ini with the entries which point to the
  collections you just generated. Sadly, you have to do this for EACH
  collection (but you only do it once):

        [Coll-1]

collPath=/opt/allaire/spectra/collections/cfa_metadata_keywords/custom
        collAlias=cfa_metadata_keywords
        topicSet=
        knowledgeBase=
        onLine=2

        [Coll-2]

collPath=/opt/allaire/spectra/collections/cfa_metadata_categories/custom
        collAlias=cfa_metadata_categories
        topicSet=
        knowledgeBase=
        onLine=2

o Start K2 server

Setup on each web server:
========================

o In CF Administrator, set Verity Server to be the server above. You should
see
  all your Spectra-generated collections listed ;-)

That's it! Seems to work well so far. Your mileage may vary. :-P
