i think it must be... unfortunately, after spending too many days trying to
sort it out, time has now run short. at least we'v managed to get it to them
in html format which is a good start. :)

As far as I know, cfmail type=html, in combination with the MIME-Version
hack produces an HTML email, not an attached .htm file. We use this all
the time and it works great. Are you sure your mailserver is not doing any
post-processing on the email?
