Good morning.

We are in the process of inheriting a set of Spectra-based applications from
a developer that is leaving our project. I know that Spectra is what is
being called a "Community Source licensing model", however I am not quite
sure how that affects our ability of getting tech support. I figured I
would start here first to see if anybody else has seen this encountered the
following problem (and came up with a different solution). Also, our
present solution (as discussed below) is the installation of the eWebEditPro
client; while it seems to be stable, I wanted to see if anybody has had
problems with running the client.

We are currently under direction to put all of our web-based applications on
SSL-enabled servers and to require SSL for these applications. We are using
a valid SSL key that the browser recognizes. Everything in our Spectra
applications works fine with the SSL key (https) up until you hit a page
that loads the Ektron eWebEditPro control. The control loads, but then you
get a dialog message that states the version of the ActiveBar ActiveX
control by Data Dynamics that you are using is the 30 day evaluation
version. This happens every time you hit the control for the first time; in
other words, if you close your browser and then come back into the
application, when the control gets launched, the dialog box will come up
again.

At the present time, as we are in testing we are not running with SSL being
required by the web server. If I switch back to http, the problem
disappears. However, that was only a temporary solution as we have to
require SSL for these applications.

Here is the set up on the server:
- Windows NT 4.0 Server, Service Pack 6a, and the appropriate security
patches
- IIS 4.0 and the appropriate security patches
- Spectra 1.5.1
- CF 5

On the client side, we are using a mixture of IE 5.5 (SP2) and IE 6.x (and
the appropriate service packs).

Here is what we have done to correct the problem:

- This problem was initially discovered with v2.1.0.4 of the Ektron
eWebEditPro control.

- We have downloaded the latest updates for Spectra via
http://spectrasource.macromedia.com/update.cfm?dl=1

- We retested; the problem still occurred.

- We have downloaded and installed the latest Ektron eWebEditPro control
(v2.6.0.7)

- We retested; the problem still occurred.

- We examined the Ektron online support entry for this problem at
http://www.ektron.com//support/ewebeditprokb.cfm?doc_id=1534.

- We were able to fix the problem by running the client installation of
eWebEditPro.

As mentioned in my opening paragraph, the eWebEditPro client seems to be
stable but I wanted to find to see if anybody has encountered any problems
with running the client (vice the just the control).

Thanks,
Jim.
