"SENSE DATA AND PERCEPTION" concert Saturday 11 Feb, 7pm, Great Hall UKISC Sound Practice Goldsmiths College, London Concert features Donald Bousted, John Levack Drever, Rob Godman, John Lely, and material from the new Disinformation project "Sense Data and Perception" (last presented at FACT, Liverpool). Disinformation is an electronic music and installation art project, which pioneered the use of electromagnetic noise produced by live mains electricity, lightning strikes, laboratory equipment, industrial and IT hardware, domestic appliances, rapid transport systems, magnetic storms and the sun etc as raw material of musical and fine art presentations. The "Sense Data and Perception" CD is available from www.tesco.co.uk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "RORSCHACH AUDIO" lecture / demonstration (15th public presentation) Sunday 12 Feb, 2pm, Small Hall UKISC Sound Practice Goldsmiths College, London The subject of research into allegedly supernatural "Electronic Voice Phenomena" is considered in the light of both anecdotal reports and formal experimental studies of related aspects of human auditory perception. "Rorschach Audio" argues that credulous interpretations of EVP research (which are commonplace in contemporary art) are at best examples of wilful self-delusion, at worst examples of outright fraud. "Rorschach Audio" offers the primary hypothesis that an understanding of the relevant aspects of psychoacoustics provides a complete explanation for most EVP recordings, and a secondary hypothesis that an informed understanding of these processes is as important to understanding the emergent field of sound art as studies of optical illusions have historically been to understanding visual art. "Rorschach Audio - Ghost Voices and Perceptual Creativity" Leonardo Music Journal, The MIT Press 2001, and "Rorschach Audio - Art and Illusion for Sound" Strange Attractor Journal volume 1, Strange Attractor 2004 (available from Ottakar's bookstores). "Rorschach Audio" is COPYRIGHT Joe Banks. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Goldsmiths College University of London New Cross London SE14 6NW www.goldsmiths.ac.uk/departments/music/ems/events/ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "The black-ops unit of the avant garde" Paul Clarke, The Metro ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
