Maarav art & culture magazine
celebrates democracy on the eve of Israel's national elections
March 27, 2006
Doors at 10pm
The Vortex, Ben Avigdor 4, Tel Aviv
As police detectives turned Maarav editor Ronen Eidelman's home
upsidedown searching for non-existant evidence of a crime he had no
part in (ultimately seizing his computer equipment) one officer
remarked to Ronen, "The problem with this country is that there is too
much democracy".
In an age when the public sphere has become polluted by public
relations personell, bad entertainers and other crooks, and when paths
of expression and creativity have become blocked to those who are not
willing to bow down before the authorities, we believe that there can
never be too much democracy.
The day before the national elections, Maarav will celebrate those who
not only create original, independent art and culture, but those who
also believe that free expression its worth fighting for.
Reclaim democracy and the public square!
