Pure Data is ideal for those looking to integrate emergent technologies or new media into their work for the first time, or media artists looking to explore new tools and new ways to combine them in a unified environment. It is easy to use Pure Data to create interactive environments, link animations and sound, control hardware and electronics, stream audio, generate real time visuals and develop interfaces for other programs. In this introductory course, participants will learn the basics of Pure Data from scratch on OSX (this knowledge can be transferred to any other operating system). Students will learn what Pure Data is, what it can do, and begin to build simple applications in "patches". Students will also learn to hack existing patches and use help patches to create applications.
