Päckchen für Kirgistan
Ausstellungsprojekt mit Werken über die Utopie des Raums"

Wie bringt man internationale, zeitgenössische
Kunst in ein Land, das nicht über finanzielle
Mittel für die Organisation einer internationalen
Ausstellung verfügt?
Lätitia Norkeit und Maxim Neroda, 2 Künstler aus
Deutschland, die derzeit in Bishkek leben und
arbeiten, stellen sich unter dem als Spiel mit
Erwartungen zu verstehenden Titel Päckchen für
Kirgistan" in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kirgisischen
Nationalmuseum für bildende Künste dieser
Aufgabe. Endloses Suchen nach Sponsoren erwies
sich als zu langwierig und unergiebig. Daher
rufen sie nun Künstler weltweit per Email und
Website
<http://www.paeckchen.org/>www.paeckchen.org auf,
ihre Kunst zum Thema Utopie des Raums" als
Päckchen oder Brief in die ferne kirgisische
Hauptstadt Bishkek zu verschicken und Teil einer
Ausstellung werden zu lassen. Mit dieser Aktion
möchten sie Aufmerksamkeit auf ein Land lenken,
das wenigen bekannt ist und zugleich das
kulturelle Geschehen in Kirgistan bereichern. Das
Interesse für internationale Kunst ist dort groß,
das Angebot klein, und für die Mehrheit der
Kirgisen bleibt das Reisen nach wie vor
unerschwinglich.
Die Aktion mündet in der Eröffnung der
Ausstellung aller Beiträge im Kirgisischen
Nationalmuseum für bildende Künste in Bishkek am
29. März 2008. Ziel der Ausstellung ist es, den
Besuchern Zugang zu vielfältiger zeitgenössischer
Kunst zu ermöglichen und auch zu verdeutlichen,
dass Kunstschaffen nicht unbedingt teure
Materialien und hohen Aufwand bedeutet.
Das Kirgisische Nationalmuseum für bildende
Künste zeigte bereits im Sommer 2007 eine
Ausstellung mit dem Titel Die ganze Stadt" in
Zusammenarbeit mit der deutschen Botschaft und
der ifa. Zu sehen waren Fotografien von sechs in
Deutschland lebenden Fotografen. 2006 gab es eine
Ausstellung mit den Werken von Wols. Beide
Ausstellungen waren sehr gut besucht und
bestärkten den Wunsch der Direktorin,
zeitgenössische europäische Kunst nach Kirgistan
zu holen.
Mit Spannung erwarten die Organisatoren die
Päckchen, die bis zum 15. Februar 2008 verschickt
sein müssen und hoffen auf rege Beteiligung. Auf

Kulturgeschichte Kirgistans
Seit über 100 Jahren erleben Kirgisen einen
permanenten gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen
Wandel. Das Gebiet Kirgistans wurde zunächst in
das russische Zarenreich und 1919 in die
Sowjetunion eingegliedert. Unter Stalin wurde ein
großer Teil der bis dahin nomadisch lebenden
Bevölkerung zwangsweise sesshaft gemacht. Die
Sowjets versuchten alte kirgisische Traditionen
zu unterdrücken und die Kirgisen zu
fortschrittsgläubigen Sowjetbürgern zu erziehen.
Durch diese Bemühungen von außen und durch die
veränderten Lebensverhältnisse gingen tatsächlich
alte Traditionen verloren, die Denkweise änderte
sich bei vielen Menschen. Es entstand ein
Kunstbegriff, dessen Inhalt hauptsächlich durch
den Sozialistischen Realismus bestimmt wurde.
Auf den erneuten Wandel nach dem Zerfall der
Sowjetunion und der Selbständigkeit 1991, weg von
einem geregelten und ideologisch geprägten Leben,
hinein in ein marktwirtschaftliches und zumindest
ansatzweise demokratisiertes Dasein mit mehr
Freiheit und weniger Sicherheit, waren die
meisten Kirgisen in keiner Weise vorbereitet. Im
Bereich der Kunst hat die Neuorientierung gerade
erst begonnen.

Post for Kyrgyzstan
Exhibition project with art works about the "Utopia of space"

How does one bring international art into a
country which does not have the financial means
required to organise an international exhibition?
Lätitia Norkeit and Maxim Neroda, two artists
from Germany, who currently live and work in
Bishkek, meet this challenge by creating a
project in cooperation with the Kyrgyz National
Museum of Fine Arts, giving it the provocative
title "Post for Kyrgyzstan".
The endless search for sponsors seemed to be
tedious and unprofitable. They therefore decided
to call on artists worldwide via e-mail and
website www.paeckchen.org to send their work on
the subject "Utopia of space" in a parcel or
letter to the distant Kyrgyz capital city
Bishkek, thus making it be a part of an
exhibition. With this action they want to draw
attention to a country which is widely unknown,
while at the same time enriching local cultural
activity. There is great interest in
international art, but few offers, and for the
majority of the Kyrgyz people travelling is still
unaffordable.
The project will lead to the opening of an
exhibition of all the contributions in the Kyrgyz
National Museum of Fine Arts in Bishkek on the 29
March 2008. The aim of the exhibtion is to give
visitors access to a wide variety of contemporary
art, and also to show that art does not
necessarily involve expensive material and
immense effort.
In the summer of 2007 the Kyrgyz National Museum
for Fine Arts staged an exhibition with the title
"The whole city" in cooperation with the German
embassy and the ifa. It showed photographs by six
artists, who live and work in Germany. In 2006
there was an exhibition with works from Wols.
Both shows were very well-attended and encouraged
the director in her wish to bring more European
contemporary art to Kyrgyzstan.
The organizers are very much looking forward to
the arrival of the parcels, which must be posted
by the 15th February 2008, and hope for lively

Cultural history in Kyrgyzstan
For over 100 years the Kyrgyz underwent permanent
social and cultural changes. For a time being,
the land Kygrgyzstan was integrated into the
Russian tsardom and 1919 into the Soviet Union.
Under Stalin most of the inhabitants, who until
then had lived as nomads, where forced to settle
down. The Soviets tried to suppress old Kyrgyz
traditions and turned them into good Soviet
citizens, who believed in progress. Because of
these pressures from outside and the altered
circumstances, the old traditions did in fact
disappear eventually and people's way of thinking
changed. An artistic perception evolved, which
was mainly influenced by Soviet realism.
When the Soviet Union fell apart in 1991, most of
the Kyrgyz people where not at all prepared for
another change. The newly gained autonomy,
leading away from a controlled and ideologically
shaped life, into a free-market economy and an
-at least basically- democratic existence, gave
them more freedom but less security.In the realm
of art, the reorientation has just began.
