After studying Germanic Literature and Linguistics, Ann Demeester embarked
on a career in the art world as an editor and art critic for several
newspapers. In 2000, she began working as assistant curator to Jan Hoet, at
both Ghent's Museum of Contemporary Art (SMAK) and the Marta Herford Museum
in Germany. From 2003 to 2006, she worked as director of W139, a platform
for contemporary art production and exhibition in Amsterdam.

In 2009 she curated the Baltic Triennial of International Art in Vilnius
together with Kestutis Kuizinas. She is currently director of the De Appel
Arts Centre in Amsterdam, and sits on the editorial boards of the magazines
'A-Prior' and 'FR David'.

RĂ dio Web MACBA took the opportunity of Ann Demeester's recent participation
at the Talking Galleries meeting to talk to her about her professional
career, her personal experience at De Appel Arts Centre and the impact of
the economic recession on cultural institutions.
