*Open Call for works* *Deadline: 12/5/18* *‘Loss & Lucidity.’ **(The Lost & Found)* *Santa Ana, California, US* *Dates: July/August 2018* *An exhibition of contemporary artwork investigating the misplaced, the missed and the mended. * *Concept: * Have you lost something? Do you become lost in your work? Have you lost someone? Have you lost your way? Are you a flaneur, flaneuse, in wanderlust, in terra incognita, a nomad, a shaman, a drifter? What tools do we use to find lucidity in that lost? Maps, GPS, emotional celibacy, memories, reinvention, survival skills, escapism, keep hold of old ties or retrace steps to experience the joy of retrieving? Your possessions may have disappeared but you are still here. So how can we find closure when the subject has ceased? Inevitably, the unforeseen can only be anticipated- not measured or calculated. Maybe some things are not lost just at a distance. Loss can be celebrated because to be fully lost is to be fully present. *Who:* How can artists show lucidity in loss? A photo, an old letter, an outworn garment reminds us we were. The trace of a body on a surface, the sound of a single note of a song, the immateriality of the material, the colour of images, a footprint, scars, the ruins of human construction, ghost towns, lost lands, warzones, loss of society through political systems, filling voids, solving a puzzle, gluing pieces of history together, transcribing a lost language, the diasporaand displacement in a new terrain, taking the correct turning on a cross-road could be ways to find lucidity in that loss. *What:* Works submitted can include traditional art forms of photography, painting and sculpture but also the contemporary processes of interventions, installations and new media and video will be very welcome. (please note any equipment to show video/film works will need to be provided by yourselves if not available through the gallery) *Where & When:* Santa Ana, California, US Dates: July/August 2018- exact dates TBC *Application* To apply please send up to 6 jpeg images and an approximately 100 word statement about how the work links to the theme to [email protected] Artists will be notified of acceptance approx. 1 week after the closing date and more details will be provided then.
