Marcel - would you share what is your current revision for all patches below since you imply no issues with OC/SRM with latest patches installed?
I got this CA response when asked about Solaris10 patch requirement few months ago: "... Again, this information in 5136.pdf, from what I am told is wrong ... on page 12 of "Spectrum r9.0 Installation Guide" ?117461-04 Linker ?119963-04 SunOS 5.10: Shared library patch for C++ ?118833-36 SunOS 5.10: Kernel patch ?119578-30 SunOS 5.10: FMA patch (required by 118833-36) ?119042-09 SunOS 5.10: usr/sbin/svccfg patch (required by 118833-36) Patch 119059 is not required by SPECTRUM. However, if you have installed it, and you are also installing SRM, verify that the patch version does not exceed 119059-20. If you have installed a higher version, you must re-install Solaris 10 with a version that does not exceed 119059-20 in order for SRM to be able to run reports. This note was added during 9.0 beta, but the issue should have been resolved with the GA release of SPECTRUM 9.0... Jan,22nd). Unfortunately we had no answer since today :-(Patch restrictions for installation 9.0 on Solaris 10? But - some kind of masochistic from time to time regarding Spectrum and the recommendations - I installed latest Solaris10 (U6 from Oktober 2008) and the current (at time of installation) Recommended Patch Cluster (2009/01/09). No OS issues till now regarding SS/OC/SRM. Hope this helps, Marcel On Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 5:40 PM, edgar parra <[email protected]> wrote: > Dear all, regards, > > I was wondering the following regarding some patches CA recommends to > have installed with the OS (Solaris) previous to install Spectrum. > > One of my providers is configuring 2 Solaris Servers and there are > patches recommended by CA, that are obsoletes and are replaced by new > ones from the provider (SUN), read below the patch description. > > Patches in RED: recommended by CA > > Patches in BLUE: latest patches from SUN > > - 117461-04 Linker --> is from July 2005 and was replaced by patch > 118833-36 > > - 119963-04 SunOS 5.10: Shared library patch for C++ --> is from > November > 2005 and it was replaced by patch 119963-12 (Nov.2008) > > - 119042-09 SunOS 5.10: usr/sbin/svccfg patch (required by 118833-36) > > - 119059 verify that patch version do not exceed 119059-20. > If a superior version than 119059-20 is installed, Solaris 10 must be > reinstalled without the version that exceeds patch level 119059-20 in > order to execute and generate SRM Reports. > > --> The patch 119059-20 is from January 2007 and the patch 119059-21 > --> is from > February 2007 > all versions of Solaris 10 since 2007 come with the latest update for > this patch (119059). > Latest version of this patch is 119059-46 from December 2008. > > My question is: is it safe to install these latest patches, instead > of the ones recommended by CA? or is a must to install these obsolete patches? > > Any ideas, or feedback from someone that have installed Solaris using > the latest OS patches are welcome. > > Regards > > -- > Eng.
