[spectrum] How to monitor the paging ability of the Spectrum server

I have a AlarmNotifier setscript that send message to pagers through a 
modem.
If the sending of the page message fails, I send a mail to some persons, 
but would there be a way to have a visible notification in Spectrum of the 
problem?
For example, I could send a trap with the snmptrap command, but which trap 
would I sent? Does someone has a tutorial to create a custom trap to sent?
Or, could I create a service in Spectrum, called "Pager", and is there a 
way from a script to change the health status of this service?
