Hi Markus,

A lot of times it depends on the Device Type when it was discovered. An easy
way to tell is to look at the icon pictured in the component detail. If the
Device Type name does not match the actual Device Type displayed under the Name
of the device, then it won't be associated by a device family in NCM and the
host configuration tab will be grayed out. I have noticed during discovery
that sysoid is not interpreted correctly and it has a Device Type name of
CiscoBg. Usually it is just some subtle difference in firmware or ios software
versions. In these cases you can test it out by destroying the model, and
modeling it manually by the correct Device type. NCM should then provide you
with the ability to perform captures. However, one caveat to this is you will
start receiving "different model type " messages associated with that device.
This is just a short term fix, the long term fix is that Spectrum support has
to catch up with any discrepancies on that type of device, and usually it will
come out in a hotfix or service pack. Then the device will discover properly.
I know this works fine for tftp, but if you are using ssh for capturing it
could be different versions of ssh causing the problem. You might need to check
which versions are supported.

Patrick

Subject: [spectrum] NCM support for cisco devices

Hi list,

how does Spectrum determine if NCM is supported for a specific model? We have a
lot of Cisco devices for which we want to use NCM - for some of the devices NCM
is available for others not - although all these devices are using the same IOS
and are "ssh cabable". Any ideas?

Regards,

Markus Gatty
