Using SpectroWatch is a good idea, it opens several possibilities; thanks
for that.

Hi Nick,

Just read your and Mario’s e-mails and thought: what happens if you use
SpectroWatch to find out if and when one of your attribute values are being
changed. I am thinking of: ‘evaluation by IMT’ which should still be there
in 8.x. In addition you could use the “script execution” option to write the
most current value into a script file. Upon re-start of SS you could use the
data in the script file vs. the data from SSdb.

At the end it boils down to the question what is more resource consuming:
online backup of SSdb or watches, script and ASCII files.

Again, just an idea that came to mind immediately.

Best Regards,

Dr. Hans-Christian Kraupner-Stadler

Thanks Mario,

The NOC procedures will need to be written according to the best solution. I
want to make sure that I have the best solution available; if that means
increasing the frequency of backups, then so be it.

Regards

Nick

Ok never thought of it this way… because only when you normally shutdown the
spectroserver the database from memory is written to the database files…. So
when you crash you lose the data you haven’t saved before. Regardless of
setting the database flag

The only thing I can think of is increasing the interval of when
online-backup is scheduled to maybe twice a day. would that be sufficient

Hi Mario,

The attributes have been created by me (using our dev key) and have been
created with 'Readable', 'Writable', 'Database' and 'Memory' flags set. They
are either set directly by user input or by inference handlers.

Thanks

Nick

HI Nick,

Have you creates these specific attributes yourself ? What flags have you
set when you created them ?

Subject: [spectrum] Saving Internal Attributes to SS db

Hi List,

I have an issue where for security reasons, we are saving information about
a device configuration in internal attributes. The problem is, that internal
attributes do not get written to disk until SpectroSERVER is either
shutdown, or the automatic backup occurs. If in the meantime if there is a
power failure or a SpectroSERVER crash, all our data is lost. Does anyone
know of a way to force SS to save to disk any changes made to the db?

We are running 8.1 on Solaris.

Thanks

Nick
