Hi all,

been doing some tests with SystemEdge's Service Availability AIM recently.
First, I was trying to do some TCP connect tests to servers using Cisco
IPSLA which, as I found out, is able to do connect performance tests only
vs. well known ports such as 23, 80 and so on, when having servers and no
IPSLA responders (i.e. Cisco devices) on the other side. Happily, I found
out (beside the fact that I do not need a license?!) that I can test
connection to e.g. port 3128 to check by squid responsiveness et. al - but
I am concerned that, just like when using the IPSLA functionality,
whenever I shut down the squid on the machine I connect to, my test runs
into a timeout event - even when I increase the timeout value to, say,
25,000 ms.

Am I missing something here? I was thinking that SPM gives me some
connection failed event/alarm or something in reaction to an ICMP port
unreachable that the machine running the SysEdge AIM gets when trying to
do a SYN on the specified port.

Experts?

Freundliche Grüße / Best regards

Christian Fieres
