This is Spectrum Report Manager's Achilles heel in my opinion. There is no good way to do a backup of the database without taking the application offline. You can use the mysqldump command to get at the MySQL database while the SRM is up and running, but there is no way to get a good backup of the BOXI database without using the link from within SRM to backup the database and depending on the size of the reporting databases, the application could be down for quite sometime while this is going on. The unfortunate thing is that the BOXI database is where the report configurations are, whereas the MySQL database is the data pulled in from the archive manager MySQL databases on the individual Spectrum LandScape servers. So the one you really want a backup of, is the one that the application has to be shutdown to get at.
