Has anyone had any experience managing Cisco Virtual Switching System (VSS)? (Virtual Switching System (VSS) technology allows two Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switches to be joined together to form a single logical virtual switch. This means a single routing table, single spanning tree instances, single configuration and single EtherChannel destination but spread across two chassis.) This means in Spectrum there is only one device model for both physical devices. (ours are at separate sites).
The problem we have is that if one of the physical chassis loses power (or fails for any other reason) root cause does not work very well and we don't get a single alarm for chassis down. What we get is around 40 "MODULE REMOVAL DETECTED" alarms for every physical interface, fan, cpu, psu on the failed chassis plus alarms on all the connected downstream devices. Root-cause is working fine for every other device in the network. It is not possible to independently poll each chassis. So does anyone have any ideas on how to suppress these excess alarms and get the root cause back? Running Spectrum 9.2 H04 Win 2008.
