We use Global Collections quite robustly at our site. (80+ of them) We
also have a sizable Virtual (VMWare) environment with upwards of 90 ESX
servers and about 1200 VM's.
Clearly the VM based servers are a big part of our Global Collections
and we further embellish the GC's with the Virtual Switches which
Spectrum represents with Rpt_Segments in the individual ESX topologies.
We also add the Physical Switch Spectrum resolves the Virtual Switches
to as well in the GC.
Our VMWare admins maintain a healthy vMotion configuration in which a VM
is moved from one ESX chassis to another. We see this happen quite often
across the Virtual environment. When this happens Spectrum will
discover the connection on the new ESX chassis and update the Universe
topology in the ESX topology.
Spectrum will NOT update the Global Collection and I see where this
could and should be done in conjunction with the Universe Topology update.
Anybody agree? Spectrum's strength are its maps and as such Global
Collections. My situation presents an almost unsustainable environment
to keep up with.
Thanks in advance.
