Christoph,

I am running both my fault tolerant SpectroSERVERs and my two One Click
servers along with 10+ other servers as Logical Domains (Oracle VM 2) on
two T4's with 64 gig RAM each. From a CPU performance point of view, it is
really a blessing compared to my old V240 and 440 boxes. I have assigned
12 virtual CPUs and 12 GB memory to my primary SS and it is virtually
doing *nothing* while running a lot more smooth than with the old
hardware.

The only bottleneck is my local storage. We are running ZFS on four 600
gig HDDs with RAID10 for the LDOM storage pool. In this case, make sure
you assign enough memory and CPU power to your I/O domain or you will
encounter huge performance problems with your drives. In my case, a whole
CPU core and 8 to 12 GB memory seemed to do the job.

One problem though I do still have: My ArchMgr keeps dying when I do huge
SQL accesses directly to the MySQL database. This didn't happen when I was
on V440, but there is no explanation whatsoever why this should only
appear on my new hardware; CA is still investigating.

Freundliche Grüße / Best regards

Christian Fieres

Betreff: [spectrum] Spectrum on SPARC T4 servers

Hi list,

anybody here using the Oracle T4 ? series as hardware platform for
Spectrum?
One of my customers has to renew his hardware. At the moment he uses the
M3000 servers from oracle, which is the official recommendation from CA.
My support request for the new T4 series was answered with ?CA doesn?t
have any experience on this hardware and so the recommendation is still
the M-series?.

I also asked a Oracle technician, who told me that the T4 series is a lot
of better in single-threading than the old T2 series and should be a good
choice for Spectrum.
Anybody here has some experience with the T4 series and Spectrum?

Regards
