The problem with this approach is it requires manual intervention for thousands of virtual devices - updating the asset info.
Using an attribute such as one of the namestrings defined in my OP would allow this information to come automatically from the Vcenter via the VAIM plugin to Sysedge. You could also use Office (USER_AssetOffice 0x12bff) or Organization (USER_AssetOrganization 0x12bfe) for the data center name. We don't use VAIM, but I'm assuming it could be used in the same way: when a new server gets built, we use the web services to automatically populate these fields above from the information that the customer fills out including the data center and environment. My Vcenter team has done considerable work in defining data centers and environments within the Vcenter. The environments can be as simple as "production", "qa", or "dev". I have a need to create Global collections in Spectrum that contain just "prod" Vm's for a given datacenter. I cannot find an attribute that has the names of the datacenter or environement. There are other examples of topography strings - LocationModelNameString, TopologyModelNameString and collectionsModelNameSrtring are good examples of this. Does anyone have an idea on how to accomplish this??
