That sounds like a lot of work for what should be a relatively simple task.

For SystemEdge models I've found an attribute "PMon SendAlarmsTo" for process
models that you can toggle between "Device Model" and "Process Model" but for
bog-standard Windows Host models that attribute doesn't appear. I see nothing
for disk models (which show up some attributes in some places as DMonxxxxxxx)

There's got to be a simple way of doing this!

Subject: RE: Monitored FIle System (RFC2790). Change default alarm generation?

Hi David

I hope I've understood your question correctly. I did some work on this a few
years back but we ended up using self-monitors for FS monitoring instead. My
memory is a little rusty but basically you need to create a MonitoredDisk model
for the file system you want to monitor, then associate that file system with
the RFC2790 model of the server by creating "provides" and "SENDS_EVENTS_TO"
relations. Something like:

create association rel=provides lmh=<server_rfc2790_MH>
rmh=<MH_of_the_monitored_disk_you_just_created>

create association rel=SENDS_EVENTS_TO
lmh=<MH_of_the_monitored_disk_you_just_created> rmh=<server_rfc2790_MH>

I also remember something about Spectrum using file system names rather than
the mount point names that you would normally want to display in your alarms.
There's an attribute mapping between the file system names and the mount point
names.

Hope that helps but email me if you want and I'll try to find my notes.

Subject: [spectrum] Monitored FIle System (RFC2790). Change default alarm
generation?

All,

We have been taking on more and more server monitoring recently and as such
we've been doing a lot of file system monitoring using the RFC2790 panels in
OneClick.

One thing that's causing a major pain is that by default these alarms are
generated on the disk models (I believe process models for process monitoring
work the same) rather than the device models.

Is there an attribute I can set in bulk via Attribute Editor that will force
all RFC2790 file system and process alarms to assert on the device model rather
than have our 1st Line guys go through each server individually and set the
"Generate Alarm On" option one at a time?

Thanks & regard

Dave
