Robert,

thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I understand that (a)
compatibility is given, more than this, a necessity unless you create a
fresh database and (b) I made a mistake by talking about a "5-byte
counter" which in fact is merely a "5-nybble counter" or, what I actually
thought of, a "5 hex-char counter" ;-)

Gee, I wish I had had this doc three months ago! I came from 9.2.2 and
went through different scenarios until I came up with a 9.2.2 -> 9.4 ->
10.1 -> 10.1.1 migration plan. Dealing with at least five different
"Install" documents by CA for the respective interim versions was HELL and
I doubted that everything came up running again until shortly before
starting the upgraded SS for the first time. But having a step-by-step
migration plan beforehand and testing all crucial features before touching
production proved once again as the best way to do something like this and
took quite a bit of my time. (This is what management ignores with great
effort: For them, it is just "click here to install, next, next, finish"
and, come again, you need ten days for an upgrade? We grant you four, make
that five in case you need to call support ... :-(

Thanks again!

Freundliche Grüße

Christian Fieres

I stumbled upon the same today.

CA has introduced "Huge Landscape Handels" to support more than 1 million
models on 1 landscape. The "old" landscape handels are now called "Legacy
Landscape Handle".
more information:

https://docops.ca.com/ca-spectrum/10-2/en/administrating/distributed-spectroserver-administration/setting-up-a-distributed-spectroserver-environment#SettingUpaDistributedSpectroSERVEREnvironment-LHLandscapeHandles

Also, Jason Meader had posted 10.2 Upgrade Scenarios document to the
community board: https://communities.ca.com/docs/DOC-231172056

Upgrades are not getting easier ;)

Hi all,

I am wondering as to how CA deals with the current handle limitation when
managing up to 2 million models per landscape in SPECTRUM 10.2 - in my
world, the landscape handle followed by a 5-byte counter provides for
1048575 unique models in addition to the VNM model at 0x<lh>00000. Has
anyone tested 10.2 yet and might enlighten me whether I should pay
attention to possible changes in handle value sizes when planning a 10.2
deployment? I don' t think I'm the only geek with quite a bunch of CLI
scripts that may need a change here and there in case we get another digit
in between.
