That sounds correct for one scenario: N players in a knockout competition of log N rounds (log to base 2), so there's a 50% chance of Mr Random progressing from one round to the next. But if everyone has to play everyone else, I suspect that the probability of Mr Random winning is much lower: the winner needs to get the highest overall score, and the strong programs that exploit patterns in the play of weak programs will be winning significantly more than half their games.
