Hey congrats!

i also remember my first BLD solve. It feels soo nice to open your
eyes and find a solved cube right in front of you!

As for the memorisation, i also use a lil bit of letters. For the
corners i use numbers 1-8 but for the edges, memorising 12 nos was
quite monotonous for me, so i name the middle layer edges as A, B, C,
D. And i think it does help.
Since its just your first few solves, its ok to make a story and all,
but if you really want to go fast, you wont have time to make up a
story and all. So i think you would just have to remember the letters
by themselves.
