Any idea what has changed? Someone once mentioned his plastic washers have disappeared over time, are yours still intact? If they're gone and the spring is maybe even already eating through the center piece, then the tension of course gets weaker cause the spring gets less and less compressed. Also, I'm assuming you tried screwing the screw in deeper?
