Yes, mine says M1005B also. And it's breaking in well. I left it unlubed for the first two weeks then sprayed it with silicon. It still turns very evenly.
As for the codes, I think they started after the OddzOn cubes. It's a great feature. I'm almost certain that the first two numbers indicate the month, and the second two indicate the year. All the cubes I've bought in the past few years have consistently adhered to that scheme.
