Actually it's understandable to blank out like that when you're under pressure, even when you know the answer. I remember an embarassing moment at a high school Quiz Bowl tournament when I buzzed in to answer a question (what is the only landlocked country that shares its border with just one other country?) and promptly forgot what I was going to say.
