Cut a piece of paper square so that it is roughly the same size as the center (including the thickness of the walls). Put it over the opening. Then put the cap on, pressing the paper evenly on all four sides as you push the cap in. The tension created by wedging the paper holds the cap in place quite nicely. Be careful if you lube, not to get the paper wet. Silicon-soaked paper doesn't work as well!
