I would suggest "feeling your way" through a cross solve, if you 
have trouble seeing ahead.  You need to be able to anticipate at 
least 1 or 2 turns ahead.  Try for the first piece, then move on to 
the next, and so on.  Count the number of turns, and try to keep it 
8 or less.

With practice you will be able to anticipate and see the whole thing 
in advance, because you will have seen the patterns before.
