During the Rubik's Clock event I actually do something a bit like this. It's easy to accidentally leave one clock on the back side unsolved and not realise it, so I always give each side a quick check at the end, before I hit the timer. It does mean I waste 1-2 seconds, but since I'm not going to be breaking any world records anyway, I'd rather accept the extra 1-2 seconds than have a DNF! :)
