I just uploaded speedtouch.tar.gz. Here are the info to use it :

1. You MUST NOT use the pppd patched version. You should use a standard
one (I use the one that comes with Mandrake 7.2).

2. Compile modem_run & pppoa2. [You can still use modem_init & modem_diag
as before]. Change the value of MY_VPI/MY_VCI in pppoa2.c according to
your provider settings.

3. Configure your pppd as follows (in /etc/ppp/peers/your_config)

debug
kdebug 1
noipdefault
defaultroute
pty "/your/path/to/pppoa2"
nodetach
sync
user "fti/xxx@fti"
kdebug 7
noaccomp
nopcomp
noccp

4. Execute the following commands :
        modprobe usb-ohci (or whatever)
modprobe ppp_synctty [you must have "PPP suppport for sync tty
ports" enabled in your kernel].
        ./modem_run -f microcode.bin -m
[wait that the line comes UP, wait few seconds and kill it,
Ctrl-C]
        pppd call your_config

5. It should work.

My test :
kernel 2.4.2 with "PPP support for sync tty ports" as a module
00:0d.0 USB Controller: CMD Technology Inc USB0670 (rev 06) (prog-if 10
[OHCI]). Yes, I bought a new USB controller.
pppd 2.4.0

Download : linux-2.4.3.tar.gz on ftp.free.fr : 62.89Ko/s
Upload : speedtouch.tar.gz on ftpperso.free.fr : 2.94Ko/s

IT'S UNTESTED WITH UHCI controller. Be carefull. As alway, log file
are filled quickly (comment the relevant printk).

Send the list your config (UHCI/OHCI, SMP or not, which pppd version &
which kernel) and your results (difficulties, upload/download speed).

Benoit
