Hi, I have an identical Debian setup and just installed last week. The only files you really need are the benoit driver and the firmware from Alcatel. The kernel patches, etc. are all for the official alcatel driver. I found the benoit driver easier and better for Debian because there will never be any hassle with apt-get upgrade or apt-get dist-upgrade. My experience was that using pppconfig to set up a working ppp configuration on Debian was invaluable. Then edit the working scripts and it all goes very well. If you have any problems, this list has some very knowledgable Debian users on it so you are not alone.
