Hi,
i've been using your driver since long time but i like to change my OSes
very often
Last time i used it under Linux (Debian sid) i was using kernel 2.4.17
without any patches and it was working perfect. (I had bulk timesout but
it doesn't affect anything)
Then i used it under FreeBSD 4.4 and 4.5 and it works even better (not
bulk timeout;))
Under windowXP everything fine too.
How i should notice that my USB port has very good power supply so it is
not a problem at all for me (and just the modem is plugged on it)
Also my line is very good (the guy at France Telecom was almost
jealous:D) so it is not a problem too.
So here is the problem;)
I reinstalled Debian/sid few ay ago, (so it's lastest pppd, and in fact
latest everything because i run apt-get all the time;) with kernel
2.2.20+debianpatches
everything worked perfect
then i upgraded with kernel 2.4.18-custom+debian patches and that's
where problem begins.
First i get theusbdevfs: usbdevfs_bulk failed dev XX ep 0xX len XXX ret
-110
and the usual bulk timeout
i can't say it's a problem because the modem finally always synchronise
(i noticed anywya that the bulk timeout are displaying because the modem
doesn't seems to be able to communicate with other components than the
driver while synchronising)
So my modem got sync, pppd starts, authentification succed and stuff.
But then i noticed a veeeeeery slow connection with even drop of
connections (very slow = 400b->4K/s) so i watched the logs and i saw i
had CRC errors in AAL5 frame (even with a simple ping i can get the
errors in fact) and it seems to make pppoa2 reload and cut connections
or something like this.
So checked again and again my installation, esecially the new kernel
(all the right modules are loaded, i tried with and without ppp
deflate/bsd compression and such things) but still the same. I also
tried 2.4.18-686 stock debian kernel and still same errors (so it's not
my custom kernel which has config probs (if it can even happen lol:D))
So i restarted under 2.2 and everything fine again.
I restarted under WindowXP everything fine
I restarted under 2.4.18 everything sux again;)
That's it.
I will try to put back the 2.4.17 from kernel.org directly to see if it
helps.
I know i said lot of stuff but it's because i had read the mail archive
and you were saying that it was or under-powered usb or bad line or bad
atm (aka not your fault) but here i think it proove you were wrong
(sorry;)
btw i use VIA chipset, so it's OHCI stuff

to finishing with, hm, what about support for the Hurd mach kernel ?;)

thx
kang
